Jack Straw in his wisdom will introduce new laws that will penalise parents for underage drinking in an attempt to discourage teenagers away from binge drinking.
How on this earth will that stop them from doing that?
Far too many attempted " quick fixes " are being tried without success these days.
Teenagers will always experiment with every aspect of life and living, that is only inevitable with youngsters, as that is part of learning to cope with everyday life and living in this modern way of having to live.
Even gang cultures is a part of that process.
So called upper class parents have also had to deal with their offspring getting into bother of some sort or other now or in the past, let along lone parents striving to do so. Royalty is one prime example.
Has he taken into consideration youngsters in care?
Will these non-parental organisations also be fined up to £1,000?
The police are stretched to the limit in this day and age without more silly laws hindering their ability to catch real criminals.
Jack Straw is a man of straw, and is well named. _________________ Please support Cancer Research. |

Allan, I don't know if Jack Straws suggestion is the answer to this "out off hand" binge drinking culture, but can you tell me what's the alternative?
Frankly, I find that some parents are incapable of taking responsibility for their offspring and let them do what the hell they like. This has got to stop, and if fining them is the answer then so be it.
I'm sure that we have all read about kids as young as 12 years, being involved in gang crimes, even being involved in murder, you've got too ask where the hell are the parents when all this is happening? They must take responsibility.
Yes, I'm sure that we've all experimented with the fags and booze in our younger days, but what's happening now is a far cry from my generation, or even twenty or ten years ago. It seems that many kids of this generation have no inhibitions whats so ever.
We are now living in horrible violent times where many parents seem to be completely apathetic towards their childrens behaviour, and let them do as they please......... This has got to change. |

Although I can agree to some of your comments, I must ask this; If some parents are irresponsible then they are not capable of answering for the whereabouts of their own offspring, let alone being answerable to law.
As the name implies, they are irresponsible and unable to understand the basics of common decency let alone wonder why they are being taken to court.
Perhaps ASBO's etc are not enough for the idiot's who plaque our streets.
The Isle of Mann had an answer until a few years ago when the birch was outlawed. Parents are now not allowed to beat their children, teachers cannot use the belt or cane.
My Father used to beat me for being unruly or disrespectful and clip me round the head for being cheeky on occasion.
That in itself was enough for me to soon realise that what I was doing was not correct. Even the police were allowed a little chastisement which would correct an unruly bairn sometimes.
The world has become too soft with the exception of China and Burma and other similar States.
There is no easy answer unless Charles Bronson intervenes and again takes a hand to help us all.
