There are a few issues with Vista, so much so that they appear to be dumping it early for Windows 7.
Reviews show it is what they expected Vista to be, but it failed.

I am interested in W7 as it can run Windows Xp within W7.
So all the programmes you have should work with Windows 7.

Vista would be ok, if the updates actually worked.
But a few of the updates, cause more trouble, than anything else.
I just don't like it, it's too flashy, and intrusive.
I'm sticking with good old XP for now.

Hi' Bob, can you tell me more about windows 7?
I have downloaded software that stops auto updating to Vista because of all the problems.
Windows 7 is news to me.

You shouldn't need to download anything.
I would have thought that you could select to download and install, or just advise of downloads.

Better to be safe before, than be wishing you hadn't done so.
