I've a young child I wouldn't want him to be affected by passive smoking. My older children aren't allowed to smoke in the house when they're visiting. They and others respect our wishes and understand the reasons why.
more chance of there being someone consistently smoking than eating garlic.
Lady K so do you smoke in front of the granddchildren in your own home? |
Sorry if I've touched a nerve Carol, but I am entitled to my own opinion.
Of course I respect other people who visit my home if they object to me smoking...I ask them to go outside while I do so.
As to you asking Lady K if she smokes in front of her Grandchildren?
Well I suppose that is up to her and perhaps the age of her Grandchildren don't you think?
As to the case of garlic, I suggest that not so long ago asbestos was considered harmless and a benefit to all users, but now we know it was a slow killer.
The Romans introduced garlic to our shores some 2,000 years ago and we all know what happened to them eventually, they were ejected, although perhaps this was not solely the main reason.
Perhaps we should introduce garlic eaters an outside ventilated area much like smoking areas where they can breathe out their noxious fumes without disturbing or sickening people like myself.
PS. In case you are not aware of the point I'm trying to make.

I had some stupid witch of a council warden running after me today for smoking in a bus shelter that was open on all sides, was only covered by a canopy. I could run faster though, she must have been about 60 and as fat as an elephant. Wish I had, had Blackadders elephant gun!
Council jobsworth the old bat.

I always ask people who want to smoke in our house if they would care to smoke outside, and if it's raining,i do the decent thing and give them all an umbrella.

God is not an issue here as he dosen't exist except only in our most deepest fears of monsters and ghosts or devils in the woods in ancient times.
Our sane modern understandings of god is something unreal and very often questioned, and although it's accepted by the many I do not understand why.
Apart from this revelation of mine, I have a policy regarding smokers.
If I see a hitchiker and I stop, I ask them if they smoke.
If they say yes, I give them a lift, if they don't, then I leave them at the roadside waiting for a non-smoker.
Life is hard, isn't it. _________________ Please support Cancer Research. |

Allan ... you should pick up hitch-hikers all the time regardless. Then you drive these shiftless tinkies to a quiet spot and bash their brains in, then bury them. You'll be doing Scotland a favour by keeping it tidy! _________________ Non Poster By Request |

French? Non Fumiere. German? Nicht Rauchen, or Rauchen verboten.
I think though that if smoking is allowed, there are no signs saying it's okay.
Just puff away.

Is it by chance happening that we have the correct temperature in which to survive?
Chance happening that we have hands in which we can eat,(it would be rather odd if we never had hands, arms, legs,a body even.)
For you to say God does not exist is not up for debate, more folk believe in God than do not,you are in a minority, please,no quotes from Richard Dawkins,i rate him funnier than Jim Davidson. _________________ Life isn't about how many breaths you take but by how many people you leave breathless. |

God is always up for debate and will always be so.
How can you say that non-believers are a minority in the world today?
I do not quote anyone other than what I think is right for common sense.
Since the beginning of time as we know it, many cultures have worshipped "gods" that we accept now as misplaced.
Rivers, trees, seas, wind, storms, the Sun and the Moon amongst others have been worshipped in the past. Egypt and Rome worshipped many others that we now don't recognise today.
Jesus, Mohammed, Bhudda, Shinto and others are recognised in modern cultures as genuine to their own populations who believe.
Too much bloodshed has been spilt down through the ages and indeed modern days for the furtherance of any particular religion above another.
Why should we as thinking human beings not question those beliefs now in modern times.
If God or God's are after all a caring entity, why do they not care about us?
The simple answer is that they don't care about us, and why should they, if they are God's. It shouldn't matter to them. _________________ Please support Cancer Research. |

God (in whatever form) has more to do looking after the Universe, than worry about us lot! He gave us a free hand and we ballsed it up!
All prayers are answered....sometimes the answer is "no!" |

Whatever "God" is (assuming it "exists" as we know the word) ... it will be an "entity" far beyond our understanding to know or recognise it for what it is. The sex of said "entity" will also be something beyond our understanding.
The God or Gods the people of this planet have so far created are all human or humanoid ... because they are all humans writ large. And they were created by our ancestors to help us understand our place in the natural world first ... and then as a way to control us by a only a few hands.
Anyone who believes in Christianity or Islam or Judaism of any of the multitude of faith/religions that abound ... are deluding themselves in the superstition of supernatural forces.
That's not to say there isn't something beyound our sense of reality that exists beside, within, and all around us that we confuse with supernaturalism.
As Shakespeare observes through Hamlet's lips ...
"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy ..." _________________ Non Poster By Request |

An Atheist
An atheist was taking a walk through the woods.
"What majestic trees!
What powerful rivers!
What beautiful animals!" he said to himself.
As he continued walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes. Turning to look, he saw a 7 foot grizzly charging towards him.
He ran as fast as he could up the path. Looking over his shoulder he saw that the bear was closing in on him. His heart was pumping frantically and he tried to run even faster. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw the bear raising his paw to take a swipe at him.
At that instant the atheist cried out: "Oh my God!..."
Time stopped.
The bear froze.
The forest was silent.
It was then that bright light shone upon the man and a voice came out of the sky saying: "You deny my existence for all of these years, teach others I don't exist and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?"
The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps, could you make the BEAR a Christian?"
Very well," said the voice.
The light went out.
And the sounds of the forest resumed.
And then the bear lowered his paw, bowed his head and spoke:
"Lord, bless this food which I am about to receive and for which I am truly thankful."

I would hate to be a hitch hiker near Lord Blackadder's Manor - em how many have you buried by now. That would make a great episode for Taggart scriptwriters to get their teeth into.
Back to topic I want to be able to smoke with a beer in a pub okay! |

What a kind and understanding sister you are. Bet you've never seen her again. |
not at all, she still laughs about it!
I have always been a non smoker, I feel i am lucky that I didnt take to it a a teenager. I understand the addiction side of it, ,now in her early 40's she has had many failed attempts at stopping. I know its a real adiction and not a whim for many people.
Re other peoples house, my ma inlaw, smokes, her house stinks, as she hardly ever goes out. I cringe at the thought of visiting , and never wear good clothes, as the the smell gets all over us afterwards.
Even if she gives us presents, the smell is all over them too, and carrier bags she uses.
Its her choice, despite heart attacks she wont stop. |
