The Greatest Comic Book Event Ever Held… in a microbrewery
…probably…
is back.
Prestonpandemonium III will take place on Saturday 31st May 2008 – 12.00– 3.00 p.m. at The Prestoungrange Gothenburg (a.k.a. “The Goth”), 227-229 High Street, Prestonpans, EH32 9BE
The Micro Mart in a Microbrewery has all sorts of comics for all sorts of people – vintage American and British comics and the latest Marvels and DCs; underground and small press comics; Civil War, the Ultimates and 52; European comics and manga; graphic novels and zines.
Several dealers and artists have already confirmed for this year – but we still want more!
If you want to be involved in any way: sell your collection; send us a message of support; run a workshop; do some signings; sell your own work; create something specially for PPIII -- as long as you don’t expect to be paid and don’t make any diva demands -- you’re in…
Scotland’s Smallest Small Press event takes part during the annual 3 Harbours Arts Festival (www.3harbours.com) which attracts several thousand visitors.
Previous Prestonpandemonia have been featured in The List and Radio Scotland.
Admission is free.
Tables are ridiculously cheap - only £10. Book now.

You were robbed!
Seriously though, we have a fine tradition of Scottish comic book writers .
What with Ian Rankin writing Hellblazer, last year's graphic novel version of Kidnapped by Alan Grant and Cam Kennedy and their reworking of Jekyll & Hyde due out very soon (not to mention all the film adaptations), sequential art is HOT!
I'm always dismayed when people dismiss the entire genre based on one comic they read. You won't say you didn't like books because you once read a rubbish one.
You've got me started now...

I was at Prestonpandemonium ...
I have a comic collection exceeding 20,000 and none are for sale. Just spent £200 on eBay getting back issues over the last 2 months. I even turned two of my nephews into serious comic collectors.
I also collect Hellblazer ... and I have written to DC/Vertigo to please never let feckin' Rankin near the comic!!! Can't stand the man OR his "writing". "Stinks" is the only polite term I can use here. Seriously, he needs to leave Constantine alone, The man's screwed up enough ... and I like his mate, Chas!!!
Grant Morrison is one of the best comics writers in the field, one of the greatest comics writers ever ... and he does NOT write kiddie books! He is one of the driving forces (along with Geoff Johns) at DC Comics. And I hated Dan Didio before it became popular to do so!!!
Mark Millar, another great Scot, is one of the Big Two writers (along with Brian Michael Bendis) at Marvel Comics.
I always say if you want a good consistent read, of a half-decent comic ... buy Marvel.
If you want true genius however with storylines for adults ... Make Mine DC!!!

Thanks for coming along to Prestonpandemonium. I hope you enjoyed it.
Only last night we were discussing whether or not to hold another one. I kind of feel that it has run its course. As much as a like 'traditional' comic marts (i.e. just stalls, no workshops, talks, Star Wars toys etc) it needs to have a crossover with, say, zines etc, to get people along.
Maybe we'll organise summat for 2010.

No, I didn't enjoy it. My freind wanted to go, but the stairs defeated him. Oh he got the lift into the main room ... but there was a another level with only stair access. Very poorly thought out. Not every comic fan is able-bodied. And Prestonpans is a bit limiting ... especially when we were chucked out of the parking space because the Prestonpans Gala was on. There should have been more thought given to disabled people.
Have to admit the weather was fabulous that day. I bough about 2 dozen back issues and then we headed for Arthurs Seat for a picnic!
