Go Ape In Pollok Country Park?

The Go Ape Company are proposing to build  an aerial assault course in Pollok Country Park.

This report was in the Glasgow Evening Times & for those of you not familiar with the park it houses the Burrell Collection & was gifted to the city by the Maxwell family..
The main objections are that the park is a green-belt site & is home to wild-life & the park belongs to the people ( I think)..Personally i think its a bad idea, Glasgow council are way out of order..

Below is a report from the Glasgow Evening Times..

Robert Booth has hit back at Go Ape's critics

by Vivienne Nicoll

A SENIOR council official has hit back at claims being made over controversial plans to build an aerial assault course in Pollok Park.

Last week the Evening Times reported how hundreds of people had objected to the Go Ape tree top proposal.

The National Trust for Scotland, which runs Pollok House, also entered the row, claiming it was not consulted in advance of plans being lodged.

It has now formally objected and the Maxwell family, who gifted the park to Glasgow, also complained they had not been properly consulted.

But today the council boss in charge of the city's parks has hit back.

Robert Booth, executive director of land and environmental services, said: "I am extremely disappointed at the amount of mis-information circulating about this.

"It is completely untrue and very disappointing that people, in particular the National Trust for Scotland and the Maxwell family, are complaining they have not been consulted.

"Council officers have bent over backwards to consult all parties.

"It would undoubtedly be beneficial if concerns about the proposal could be based on the actual detail rather than inaccurate information."

Campaigners opposed to the plans have set up a website - savepollokpark.com - and are due to hold a public meeting tomorrow night.

But Mr Booth was also keen to dismiss claims being made about how the attraction would impact on Pollok Park.

He said: "The proposal will not use an area of 32 acres. Nor is it proposed to lease large areas of the park. Nor will there be large areas of parkland fenced off. No trees will be lost and there will be no detriment to wildlife.

"There will be no change to access through the existing path network and all informal recreation enjoyed in this area will continue as normal.

"The areas proposed for lease are two small timber buildings."

The NTS were unavailable for comment.

Tomorrow's public meeting on the plans will be held at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall in Pollokshaws Road at 7.30pm.

An aerial assault? I'd've thought being assaulted in Pollock Park on the ground would be enough already for most people.
