Freesat?Whilst looking through teletext the other day I saw that BBC and ITV are going to soon introduce a new sattelite service called "freesat".
In their own words, for only a one off payment for this set top box etc. we will be allowed to watch all these extra channel's including radio channel's free in HD format without any extra monthly subscription.
Sounds to me that digital TV is on the way out already then before it has even been rolled out to everyone.
Whatever next!
3D TV perhaps?
My advice to those TV providers is this:-
Get rid of the majority of repeating repeats before trying to get more money out of us to show even more crap instead, and start make normal viewing time more enjoyable.
Most of the time my telly is switched off after the 6 o'clock news.

It is the American programmes that are hyped up that I hate.
Most are not even funny and they laugh at themselves, OK there are a few good ones, but they are few and far between.
I like some programmes repeated, but the soaps!!! Geese, geese a break!
I have not heard of what you talk about AllanP, have you got a link to it?
Freeview is all that is required without going Hi Def as I don't spend my life in front of a TV anyway, in fact if it wasn't for the missus I wouldn't bother with a TV as there is not a not on I watch anyway and a lot of the time it is on just because it is there!
I find all this changing standards is just a way of getting more money from us anyway.
Doesn't stop at TV, there is DVD standard changing, Video to DVD and now to Blue Ray
It goes on and on!
Even a mobile phone is no longer just a phone, when do we get a chance to keep up with it all

Sorry Bob, no I don't as I only read about it on teletext last weekend.
Perhaps it's only a suggested item dreamed up between the beeb and itv as no other details were given out about it at the time.
Maybe you could try the BBC boards and ask them; if they're ever open that is.
I've tried finding the teletext page, but it's no longer there.

OK, thanks for the info AllanP.
I'll try to keep a look out for that.

I thought "Freesat" was available as normal as a neighbour wanted that because "Freeview" was not available in our area, but she was persuaded by "Sky" to take out a prescription to their services as they have to provide the satelite communication.
Anyone wishing to watch prime television for free this weekend can watch BBC2 on Sunday at 6pm. Young Musician of the Year.

Agreed, but she was probably subjected to pressure from them.

I cannot confirm, but I think she has carried on with the original connection. She may have been overwhelmed by the "wonders" that Sky offer!

I must admit subscribing to sky because where I lived at the time before I moved here did not offer a good terestial conncetiion, and it still does not.

I don't have a TV that works, so I have no problem with digital things or whatever they try to put my way. I have a rented TV that stopped working three years ago, so I stopped paying the rental. They occassionally send me threatening letters but for some reason they don't come and pick the damn thing up.

Having looked through your link carefully I'm not impressed by it at all, in fact I'm wary by all the supposed promises. Don't think I'll go there yet.
