Digital Telly.

Can anyone convince me that changing to digital TV is worth doing now, or waiting to see what happens when I've a blank TV screen?

Any advantage in waiting, or should I upgrade now?
Which, in your opinion is the best set top box to go for?
Which TV network is best?
Many, many questions I know - but if I don't ask, I'll never find out.

It would depend if you want pay channels or not.
If you want those you would be as well with Sky I think or Virgin or if you get cable.

Otherwise it is worth getting a box now for the extra channels you get.
You can get a basic box from £15 - £25 and better ones cost more.

Stay clear of Alba ones, one model is rubbish and has been a lot of bother (Can't remember the model number, but it is inside a few others!
The cheapest Bush (Curved) is not a great one either.

Buy one from somewhere that exchanges them without an argument as you may not like the first one you buy.
Some have various functions that are handy, others are just a bit of a gimmick!

You can always wait till the screen goes blank and get a free one from the BBC.  Can't charge you for a licence if you can't receive a picture!
They will run out of them anyway, so it may be wise to buy one

Sorry I can't help more, but it is a choice thing of what you buy.
I had three before I got one that suited me.

The most annoying thing is the repeated updates you get, new channels added, shifted around, encrypted etc.
I have had to reset and re-tune this one three times due to them shifting things around, however it is a simple operation.

Yes, it is worth buying one, but don't fork out to much for one and don't buy the cheapest.

Thanks Bob for your help. I'd better shop around then before deciding.

At the moment Freeview is a bit of a gamble.  The reason is they're trying to run Digital alongside the old channels. Once the analogue is switched off, digital will be powered up and the signal will be better!
You have two years yet in Central Scotland...you might be changin your tv by then, in which case get one with a digital tuner built in (there are more and more each day!)
But one thing!  The Digital channels are on different frequencies, so a new aerial is probably needed.  Don't pay the prices that the aerial fitters ask, if you can do it yourself, buy an aerial from the likes of Argos and wire it up yourself!

I just bought a Seg one from Tesco (the store I love to hate) and it works great.

£17

It is has no card slot.
But is OK if you just want the Free To Air Channels
