Charity helping.

Which charity do you wholeheartedly support by means of donations or volunteering help?
Mine is Cancer Research, as I spend two afternoons a week in their charity shop as a bit helper.

But what is your own favourite charity, and do you help by donating, or by helping out?
In this current climate, every little bit helps someone else.

Charity begins at home as far as I'm concerned.

I used to help in a charity shop by testing electrical donations and found most of the people there were there to see what they could get for themselves, or were there on placement for community services orders.

I do make donations to organisations but they're for specific interests to me, and I wouldn't call them charities, like the Manx Grand Prix helicopter fund. All the personnel involved in that activity give up their time for free.

I don't believe in making donations to charities where they're run by paid management, like the charities  accountants and lawyers who rarely do their work for free, but it's up to individuals to make up their own mind.

I totally agree with all your comments.
I am a qualified retired electrician and have offered to test electrical items although it is against company policy to sell any electrical goods to the public.

This reminds me of an item donated a couple of years ago (a TV) which I wanted to see if it had a picture or not. I duly checked the plug etc and switched it on. The screen lit up okay. As it had an integrated aerial I touched it (one handed) to try to improve the picture. I was immediately thrown across the room by the shock I got.

Now I decline all electric items or bin them without testing.
People do donate many dangerous items to charity shops sadly.

Well done you all!
Alison

Favoured charity is ARMS, Action Research into Multiple Sclerosis (absolutely NOTHING to do with the MS Society).

I have to applaud everybody and all who contribute in their own small way to worthy causes, who then in turn help the less fortunate, not only in our own country but elsewhere.

We are a charitable nation in the UK who care for others less fortunate than ourselves.

Do other nations do as well per head of population? Perhaps not!

Good on you all!
Alison

I've noticed that invariably, Scotland always comes out tops per head of population when Children In Need, Comic Relief, etc is on the telly.

We get the usual crap of being 'condensed' as a bunch of grippy barstewards, but when the chips are down and counted, we're not too tight on letting the shilling go.
