It is not such a straight forward story as you might think!
Brother fought brother and father fought son in that battle.
It is the follow up to it that I thought was very cruel and I think unnecessary.
Hope the weather is good for you

Ah Bob,
As a staunch Jacobite all my life, I am only too aware of who fought who in this terrible battle, but what many folk are not aware of are the reasons why so many fought on opposing sides. It was not simply out of choice for many on either side, but is full of complexities..
Many Jacobites were there at the command of their chiefs who were loyal to the exiled King James and Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Some of the Hanovarian side were there at the command of their chiefs who sought the favour of the German King, and many on the Hanovarian side were also there because they had joined the British army as a mean to feed their families. Complex indeed.
The memorial service yesterday was attended by many hundreds of people, wreaths and flowers were laid by people who had come from all round the world. The weather was good and the Gaelic service was moving.

Well Xcotty, I am happy to oblige and if anyone wants to aske me something about our history, I will be happy to help out where I can.
The Highland Clearances.
These clearance began in earnest after the Jacobite defeat at Culloden and were a terrible example of ethnic cleansing.
In saying that though, It's my own thought that these clearances would have taken place anyway, but at a slower pace and in a non violent way, as trade became an important part of Scotland's economy.
Evolution goes on all the time and it was only a matter of time before the highlands and the lowlands would have had to come together for the good of the country.
Culloden, sadly, simply kicked up the pace of change which was bound to come in the end.

Glad you enjoyed the day and the service.
I enjoyed the programme not many sundays ago about the clearances. I am not sure what side I would have been on really. Well now I would be a jocobite but if I lived then would I. My surname is Keith. My mothers grandmother was a campbell.

I think Scotland had too many traitors back then, willing to die in exchange for the pennies.
Obviously,it must have been tempting as Scotland was a very poor country, but was there such animosity between Highlanders and Lowlanders as we are to believe.
I have read a few books on the history of Scotland but if i had a wish,i would love to have been transported back to that time, just to catch a glimpse of what like it must have been.

Allan P asked a really good question, on the second FTS.
The one that just flipping vanished.
But I canny remember how he worded it, which is a shame.
Allan if you read this, can you remember what the question was?
