A plea to find ARCHIE..........?

This is a heartfelt plea to anyone out there to help us find this Archie
(no surname).

I work as a part time volunteer for Cancer Research two afternoons a week in their charity shop in Grangemouth, Central Scotland.

I have gone out of my way to get this advert shown in the Falkirk Herald newspaper and also broadcast on Central FM radio to try to find out this persons whereabouts.

If anyone on this board can help in any way, then please get in touch with me either through these message boards or on our shop phone number.

This below is a copy of the notice in our shop window.

                “Archie” ???

Very personal (unopened when found) letter inside donated leather bag addressed to you from your Mother. (probably deceased).
No other personal details were given in the letter.

Other names given therein though were:-

John Hamilton, George Dryburgh, Sandy Carmichael, Jimmy Little, Robert Miller, Alex Wallace and Billy Gardener.

If anyone knows this “Archie” or any of the above mentioned names, do please let us know so we can get in touch with Archie and let him have this very moving last letter from his Mum.

Please phone (01324 666266) with any details which can help us.

Ask for managers Louise or Ina.

I hope anyone on our boards can perhaps help, as this letter was found over two weeks ago.

Thank you Freetalk. Scotland.
You could be my last attempt to find this Archie.

Thanks a lot Merak, have registered on the Record board and posted my request. If anything is positive I'll let you know ASAP.

A big thanks to all you guys for your kind suggestions and help in this matter.

If we ever manage to find this Archie, I will quickly let you all know.

So far nothing at the moment, but we live in hope.

Thespian, I thank you for your valued help. The time for anyone who can maybe point me in the right direction is getting slimmer day by day. However, rest assured if I can find out any more I will update all PDQ.

Archie has been traced at long last. A man phoned our shop this morning and said he knew of his whereabouts and left me his address.
Archie now lives in Southampton; I have now addressed the said letter to him and will post it out first thing tomorrow morning.

A great big thank you to everyone who answered my plea as best as they could and gave support to me in my quest.

JOB DONE!

A great result

Glad we were part of the search.

The Internet can be great for this sort of thing.

I don't know if it was due to this forum or the internet or other, but it is great to feel involved

How did the bloke who phoned find out about it?

The manageress of the Cancer Research charity shop phoned one morning to say that one of the other names highlighted on the letter she left for Archie, must have been seen by him quite possibly on one or other notices posted in shop windows locally.
I didn't find out how.

He said that he would come and get said letter and send it on, to which he was  politely told that we could not possibly do that as it was addressed personally to Archie.

His wife came in to the shop that same afternoon and after it was explained to her, she left Archie's postal address with me, to which I duly sent out the letter the very next day in the post to him.

It was a bit of good luck really, as we had held on to this letter for about six weeks since it was first found without much hope of any success.

All in all it was a very satisfying conclusion to a sad family problem.

Archie phoned our shop soon after he received the letter to thank us all for our trouble in contacting him.

So it was all worth the trouble after all I'm pleased to say.
Thanks for asking.
