I am glad that Mad Mick has finally gone. Okay he is not responsible for all of this mess. What one cannot deny is that he sought to exempt MP's from the Freedom of information act.  That in itself is enough to bring about the resignation. As far as expenses go he is not immune.  Even his Wife Mary loved nothing better than running up taxi bills both in Glasgow and London for her luxurious shopping trips.
The people of Springburn say "What a great working class he was". Yes he was but that was before he became an MP and got stuck in like the rest of them.

Judging by the views of many on telly they have given up on him,if they hold an election,he will get booted out.

Hell mend him.

Yes he is. Not only was he championing keeping M.Ps expenses secret to the extent of taking legal action, he also presided over the last review of M.Ps expenses.  He reviewed the system in such a way that left it wide open for M.Ps to manipulate for financial gain and he done it on purpose to allow them to do it.  So whilst he never forced anybody's hand in signing their claim forms, his system of expenses encouraged them to claim for everything under the sun.

Anybody worth their salt if tasked to review a system of expenses would be seeking to close loopholes and put policy in place addressing dodgy claims, but not him - his review served to blur it all and encourage it.

This mantra of "acted within the rules", "haven't broken any rules" that we're sick fed up of hearing, are the "rules" as rubber stamped by Michael Martin at the last review of the system of M.Ps expenses.

And to add insult to injury off he goes with a hefty pension pot and a peerage.  Absolutely shocking.

He reminds me of Joe Gormley, another one who done the dirty deeds on his own union, got made a Baron and worked for M15,unknown to his fellow unionists.

Well at least it seems that there be unrest in the Lords over the prospect of Martin getting an auto-peerage.  So hopefully he doesn't.  High time we got away from this "auto" stuff anyway. Fek tradition - nobody should be getting elevated to any status as a matter of course. They must demonstrate that they've deserved it. And besides, with the auto-peerage for the speaker, it's on their retirement. Martin isn't retiring, he's resigning. Bit of a difference there imo.
