http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7194289.stm
This, just to refresh memories, was the ship (the Napoli) that sank off Branscombe that was carrying allsorts of goodies that ended up washed up on the beach.
Would you have helped yourself to the booty? I probably would've. I'd've been down there for the excitement of what I might find, but not with a huge sack just for the sake of filling it with all and sundry. But, like the bloke in the article, I think if I'd found something like the oil painting he found, I'd try and get it back to its owner, but anything else - like goods en route to the shelves in shops, would be mine if they took my fancy. |

like you say I think it would depend on what I found....we did wonder about the cars on the stranded ship just off our coast during the week but they refloated the damned thing  |

If you've ever read the book "Whisky Galore" by Compton McKenzie, The islanders couldn't believe their luck when a ship destined for America carrying 50,000 cases of whisky, foundered on the rocks during a bad storm.
Unfortunately the islanders luck didn't last long and the whisky quickly ran out..............and they lived unhappily ever after. :( :( :(
Whether it was because of the lack of whisky or some sort of omen that swept over the island...you have to make up your own mind.
Would I have joined the crowds scavenging the beach at Branscombe? ..... Of course I would.... But certainly not to the extent of taking a large sack.
ps..... Ealing studios made a film addapted from the book by the same name. |

It was HM Costoms in real life that spoilt their fun! :(

I think I would go along for a look.
I need a new fridge, but it would be a B****** to carry.
So I would just take an ashtray or something. |
