Why do cyclist's still not display rear lights during dark evenings?
Far too often I have suddenly come upon "invisible" bikes and have had to swerve around these idiots.to avoid knocking them over.
C'mon cyclist's, if you have no lights on your bike, then wear reflective clothing at least or perhaps get on yer bikes somewhere much safer than on unlit roads.

Even reflectors on the bike would help.
Even one of those LED lights front and back work very well and are not hard on power.
Why do parents allow kids out without any lights when they are on a road?
Do they care?

I thought it was mandatory to have lights on a bike anyway?

Obviously not so these days. Bikeist's take note; you ARE invisible to we motorists.
Motor vehicle drivers not showing lights in gloomy or dark overcast conditions also take note.

Poor horse.
I do agree with Allan though.
I'm driving along country roads going to work.
I drive a big transit van, so I tend to hug the kerbside.
A few times, I've suddenly been aware of something in front of me.
If I run into the back of a biker, and killed him.
I would be the one in jail for this.
I'm not sure what the law is for this, I know there is one.
But it really should be enforced in a big way, to protect those daftys.

I don't think anyone would disagree with Allan.
I don't think push bikers realise how invisible they are, if a car is coming to wards you, well you just don't see them unless they have lights.
It is them who will come off worst.
Shame the car driver lands in bother as well, though the speed of some is a lot to be desired!!!

Maybe we have to turn back time about 20 years or so ago when ALL bicycles were sold with front and rear lights. It's all well and good that cyclists be required to wear padded cycle helmets these days, but that is no use at all if they are brushed aside because they are not seen until it's too late to be avoided.

Not so much that they had lights, but they all came with brackets for a light to be fixed to. It should be made law that these brackets should be fitted to every bike sold. With the advent of bright LEDs that do not require a lot of battery power it would then be easy to just pop on a light and take it off and pop it into your pocket.
Trouble with modern bikes is they do not have fittings on the bikes for lights. The plastic lights you get for them are not up to the job and the plastic bracket just snaps.
I saw someone on a bike the other day with a flashing red light and a flashing white light attached to a shoulder belt, brilliant! I saw him about half a mile away, though I admit I had to slow down as I had no idea what it was!
Two birds with one stone, he was seen and I had to slow down (even though he was on a cycle way off the road itself).

trouble is the lights get stolen, isnt it time bikes were sold with fixed lights both front and back?
My sister used to work as a nurse and when she left her bike when she went for her shift she had to take both front and back lights with her to stop them being nicked - so some lovely person stole the seat one night

Some of the new L.E.D. lights are so small now they can be put in your pocket, no use to see with mind you, but others can see you.
Bikes are easy targets and everything is easily removed, even the bike itself

thats true  I seem to remember someone chaining their bike by the wheel to some railings and coming back to find just the wheel
