River City chiefs have ditched the show's "cheap" new format after a wave of protest from fans.A bid to give the Shieldinch series a gritty Holby City-style look backfired badly. Now BBC bosses have bowed to increasing pressure after fans and critics mauled the new look.
Producers have promised a return to the soap's old look, with more emphasis on fan favourites such as Shellsuit Bob, played by Stephen Purdon, and Gina - Libby McArthur.
But River City - which used to have two half-hour shows a week - will remain in its new one-hour format.Scores of disgruntled fans signed a petition on the soap's website in protest over changes introduced last autumn. Some set up a "Save River City from Auntie's Meddling" club on networking site Facebook. They hated the introduction of incidental music and the lack of humour in scripts. A cheaper "post-production" filming process was also unpopular with viewers.Tonight's episode has been hailed as the first step in a gradual change back to the look which made the show a hit with fans. And cast members are delighted.
One star told The Record: "The way things were going, River City looked like it was a goner "People were coming up to us in the street to say how awful they thought the show looked."The changes had been ordered from down south. It just didn't work."One crew member added: "Too many changes were made all at once and too many new characters were introduced in a space of time."The new scripts are much more like the old ones." _________________ Can't read my poker face........

At least things seem to be improving week to week now, loved Scarlett trying to inmprove herself last week. _________________ Can't read my poker face........
Do you know, I didn't mind the new format, I quite liked the wee change.
When I said that on the main site, folk tried to get me banned.
But for once, I was actually being serious. _________________
It wasn't too bad Xcotty, it was just when the cheesy music kept cutting in, then all that concentration on Daniel etc, just think it was all handled really badly, they shnot have been so disliked _________________ Can't read my poker face........
The only thing I wasn't keen on was the whole gangster thing.
Eastenders went through a spell of the same kind of storylines.
Folk were changing channels in droves.
But they seem to have softened Lenny an co, a bit.
Daniel went a bit mad, but it's hard to take his acting seriously anyway.
But one of the funniest things I ever saw, at that time, was the church scene.
When Gina, and Scarlett were pinching the holy water.
But no-one mentioned that on the city forum, just moaned about the prog.
Which made me think, a lot of them didn't actually watch it, that much? _________________
It was just too much Daniel McKee & co, and Moda Vida moving overnight, why could the base not have moved into Interjumble ??
Oh and where is Heather? last I saw she was walking into Versus, haven't seen her since, has she been murdered? is her body lying undiscovered? did nasty boring new Jo do it ? _________________ Can't read my poker face........
Pepsi, I thought it was bad this week, even Scarlett was almost over acting, no way would the real Scarlett have reacted like that to losing all that money.
